Scott S. Markowitz – Partner
Scott S. Markowitz leads the Bankruptcy and Corporate Restructuring Practice Group at Tarter Krinsky & Drogin LLP. His practice focuses on debtor and creditors’ rights, bankruptcy and out-of-court workouts.
Mr. Markowitz counsels clients on:
- Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 proceedings.
- Business reorganization.
- Financial restructuring.
- Strategies for dealing with financially-troubled entities.
- Buying and selling troubled entities in Chapter 11 and outside of bankruptcy.
- Out-of-court debt composition and settlements.
- Preference, fraudulent conveyances, equitable subordination, lender liability, and the assumption or rejection of leases and executory contracts.
He has a diverse portfolio of clients, including public and private middle-market companies as well as creditors’ committees. During the last real estate recession from 1989 to 1992, he represented more than 100 clients in bankruptcy court restructurings. In addition to his work with corporate clients, he counsels individual clients with regard to complex individual debt restructuring.
Mr. Markowitz recently represented a large Manhattan hotel in a contested Chapter 11 case that resulted in a confirmed plan and payment of 100% plus interest to unsecured creditors. In another recent case involving a large interior construction firm in New York City, he represented the creditors’ committee.
Before joining TKD, Mr. Markowitz was a partner for 10 years at the bankruptcy law firm of Todtman, Nachamie, Spizz & Johns, P.C. He is admitted to practice in New York and Florida and in the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
