A complaint of housing discrimination brought against one of our clients, a real estate managing agent, was dismissed by the New York State Division of Human Rights and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
A resident shareholder of a Mitchell-Lama building in Manhattan alleged that our client had ignored her complaints about conditions in the building, including noise complaints, because of her race. We were able to assist the managing agent in demonstrating that it had taken appropriate steps to deal with conditions in the building and had not treated the resident shareholder differently than other shareholders based on her race.
TKD Partner Richard L. Steer and Associate Tara T. Toevs of TKD’s Labor and Employment Practice Group handled this case for the client.
