Serena Checchinato is an experienced legal counsel admitted to practice both in Italy and in New York. She represents international and domestic companies as well as individual clients in connection with a broad range of cross-border matters and business transactions in the United States. She also actively provides liaison services to foreign professionals seeking U.S. legal advice and support for their clients.
Serena is an associate in the firm’s Italy Practice as well as the International, Retail, and Corporate and Securities Practices.
With a particular focus on clients with an Italy nexus, Serena represents both U.S. and non-U.S. clients and serves as outside general counsel to companies that seek to establish and expand their operations in the United States. In addition, Serena supports, through a trustworthy and well-vetted network of local advisors, U.S. clients interested in conducting business or investing in Italy.
Serena routinely acts as primary point of client contact, advising them on a variety of corporate and contract matters. Thanks to her background and experience, she can seamlessly bridge the gap between the U.S. and Italian legal systems and effectively explain how their differences may affect clients’ businesses. In addition, she works closely with the firm’s Immigration Practice to counsel U.S. subsidiaries of Italian companies in obtaining business and investor visas. Serena also represents clients in connection with the formation of not-for-profit corporations and their governance activities.
Serena has represented domestic and foreign clients in a variety of industries, including luxury goods, design, jewelry, fashion, beauty and cosmetics, food, retail, hospitality, industrial machinery, and not-for-profit.
She collaborated with Giuliano Iannaccone and Luigi Perin in connection with their book Stati Uniti d'America: Diritto e Fiscalità d'Impresa (United States of America: Business Law and Taxation), IPSOA/WoltersKluwer, 2019. In addition to her private practice experience, Serena was also part of the Delegation of the European Union to the United Nations in New York from September 2010 to February 2011, during which she acted as Junior Legal Adviser at the Sixth Committee (Legal) of the UN General Assembly and followed UN and EU meetings on international public law matters.
