Steve Polyakov is the chair of the firm’s Healthcare and Pharmacy Law Practice Group. With a multitude of experience in essential practice areas and an entrepreneurial mindset, Steve advises healthcare, medical and pharmacy industry clients on all aspects of their transactional, regulatory and litigation needs with a keen understanding of their overall growth strategy. His unique experience within the sector allows him to understand the nuisances and regulatory requirements that health-based businesses face in their formation, organization and operations.

Pharmacy and Healthcare

Steve focuses his practice on complex healthcare matters, such as Medicare and Medicaid audits, managed care and third-party payor contracting, HIPAA compliance programs, employment contracts, medical contracts, overpayment appeals and challenging pharmacy benefit managers in audits and credentialing.

Corporate and Transactional

With deep experience in corporate law, Steve also assists pharmacy owners and medical practices with entity formation and other healthcare business agreements. Steve also strategizes with clients on merger and acquisition opportunities and assists with the structure, purchase and sale of pharmacy and medical-related practices and businesses.

Disputes and Litigation

With a solid foundation of regulatory requirements, Steve is adept in advising clients on the requisite compliance steps to properly minimize risk and maximize revenue.  In the event that a dispute arises, he is a skilled commercial litigator who regularly handles matters related to medical license defense, fraud investigations, STARK and anti-kickback laws, breach of contract, federal and state criminal investigations, civil Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), professional negligence, construction and commercial lease disputes, and other complex commercial litigation matters.

Background

In addition to his legal practice, Steve teaches health care law classes for hospital residents/fellows and has taught contract law courses at New York University. He has also provided pro bono assistance to start-up companies through New York City’s Business Solutions Program.

Before joining Tarter Krinsky & Drogin, Steve was a managing partner at SAPG Legal, an international law firm.
