On November 14, Tanya Duprey, Tarter Krinsky & Drogin’s Firm Administrator, will be a featured speaker at the Association of Legal Administrators New York City Chapter event, “Autism Spectrum Disorder - Differently Abled.” Tanya and her fellow panelists will discuss accommodations, resources and services that help those with Autism Spectrum Disorder transition into the workforce. They will also inform on how to handle this disability and dispel myths about work ethics.
Questions that will be answered during the panel discussion will include:
- What type of accommodations do these applicants need?
- How do ADA laws affect the hiring process?
- Are there resources available to employers?
- In terms of emergency contacts is there any other information we should know?
- Is shadowing or coaching necessary in all cases?
The panel will be moderated by Francine E. Lahm, Director of Human Resources at Mendes & Mount, LLP and will include:
- Celina Cavalluzzi, Director of Day Services at Goodwill Industries
- Dave Kearon, Director of Adult Services for Autism Speaks
- Matthew Sturiale, LCSW, President and CEO, Birch Family Services
- Tamanna Rubya, Agency Attorney for the Law Enforcement Bureau of the New York City Commission on Human Rights
Tanya was selected to speak because as the mother of two daughters, one of whom has several learning disabilities and sensory and auditory disorders, she has been learning how to navigate the world of public education and special education needs while being a strong advocate for her daughter. She wanted to share her personal story and tips for other parents who also may be going through similar situations.
