Minyao Wang is a partner in the Firm’s Litigation; Bankruptcy and Corporate Restructuring; and International Practice Groups. He focuses on complex business litigation, bankruptcy litigation, and cross-border litigation.  He is deeply experienced in all aspects of bankruptcies, insolvencies and workouts.

Mr. Wang’s clients have included Fortune 500 companies, hedge funds, institutional investors, insurance companies, start-ups, family offices and high net-worth families in the United States and abroad.  He has handled virtually every area of commercial litigation, including, bankruptcy, securities, breach of contract, business divorces, antitrust, structured finance, products liability and intellectual property.

An experienced cross-border trial lawyer, Mr. Wang has almost 20 years of experience at both the trial and appellate levels, achieving high-stakes victories in bench and jury trials, as well as arbitrations in the United States and abroad. He is one of the very few U.S.-raised and U.S.-educated trial lawyers who are fluent in written and spoken Chinese and is a uniquely formidable advocate for and against Chinese entities.  Mr. Wang was a key member of a trial team that won a $100 million arbitral award against a major Chinese corporation - a case that leveraged Chinese documents and Mandarin-speaking fact witnesses.

He is experienced in domesticating Chinese court and arbitral awards in the United States and has secured difficult to achieve pre-decision asset freezing orders.  Mr. Wang has successfully obtained critical U.S.-based discovery through Section 1782 for use in foreign proceedings.  He has also provided testimony to courts and arbitral bodies in the Cayman Islands, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China on U.S. legal issues, including testimony conducted entirely in Chinese.

A former law clerk to Chief Judge Carla E. Craig of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York, he has represented debtors, official committees, trustees, and foreign liquidators in complex chapter 11 cases.  Mr. Wang also represented successful bidders in section 363 transactions. One of those transactions, a bid by a South Korean client, has won multiple industry awards.
In the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, Mr. Wang served as a lead associate on a team representing institutional clients in lawsuits against the major global banks regarding the sale of defective residential mortgage-backed securities, resulting in the recovery of hundreds of millions of dollars through settlements.

An effective cross-cultural negotiator, Mr. Wang has represented multiple Chinese parties in reaching confidential favorable settlements with their U.S. adversaries without resorting to litigation. Mr. Wang has effectively used tools of United States litigation to protect the intellectual property rights of Chinese corporations. He has also guided Chinese companies in successfully investing in the United States and navigating the current complex geopolitical environment.

Mr. Wang grew up in a suburb of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
