We are pleased to announce that Construction Chair David Pfeffer has been named a 2020 New York Trailblazer by the New York Law Journal (NYLJ). The NYLJ’s list of New York Trailblazers recognizes attorneys who have been agents of change in terms of the practices, policies or technological advancement of their sector.

David is noted for his work advocating on behalf of a client who sought to open a movie theatre that sold liquor. Rather than navigate the complex and highly political body of law governing liquor, David proposed that certain movie theaters be included under the legal definition of a “restaurant,” thereby allowing them to obtain liquor licenses. The amendment was passed, with New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo signing the bill into law.

Apart from restrictions related to COVID-19, David's client is now able to operate theatre/restaurants in New York that sell meals and alcoholic beverages, while other businesses around New York have followed suite.
