Tarter Krinsky & Drogins General Counsel Justin Y.K. Chu has been named to Crain’s New York’s 2024 Notable General Counsel list.

The Notable General Counsel list features the top general counsel leaders in New York who demonstrate leadership skills in running a legal department as well as who have made significant contributions to their professional and civic communities. The full list of honorees can be found here.

“I’m deeply honored to be included on this list of experienced and leading general counsels in the competitive New York market,” Chu said. “I take immense pride in being a lawyer and guiding fellow lawyers on the ethics of legal practice. The position of general counsel has allowed me to do so not only at Tarter Krinsky & Drogin, but to also utilize that experience in guiding other law firms and attorneys.  I look forward to continuing to promote positive and forward-thinking policies within my Firm and the wider legal community.”

Among his noteworthy accomplishments, Chu has implemented a variety of policies concerning ethics, conflicts, and risk management for the Firm and spearheaded their enforcement for proper integration. Additionally, he lends his legal prowess to his community through his position as a committee member of the New York State Bar Association’s Committee on Standards of Attorney Conduct. As part of this role, he helped draft a new rule against discrimination and harassment in the legal industry that was approved by the NYSBA and largely adopted by the New York State courts.

“Justin is the epitome of a professional and we’re honored to have him as part of our management team, helping to lead the Firm’s overall risk management and ethics issues,” Managing Partner Alan M. Tarter said. “Throughout his tenure here – and over the course of his career – Justin has worked tirelessly to ensure that our business is ahead of the curve and that we can continue to follow through for our clients. Congratulations to Justin and all the honorees on this prestigious recognition.”

In his role as General Counsel, Chu leads the Firm’s risk management efforts, including compliance and issues concerning ethics, privacy, cybersecurity, and employment. In addition to his in-house role, Chu serves as outside general counsel to a number of clients, where he acts as clients’ strategic legal advisor and guides them on professional liability, legal ethics, and employment matters.
