The New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) recently published a "Know Your Rights at Work" poster.  The one-page multilingual poster contains a scannable QR code linked to the DCWP website which provides an overview highlighting certain city, state, and federal laws enforced by the DCWP and other agencies, including the New York State Department of Labor, the U.S. Department of Labor, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the National Labor Relations Board, and various human rights agencies.

By July 1, 2024, each employer in New York City is required to:

• Conspicuously post the "Know Your Rights at Work" poster at the employer’s place of business in an area accessible and visible to its employees (for example, a breakroom, near a cash register, lunch room, or bulletin board);
• Provide a copy of the poster to each of its employees (and thereafter on or before an employee’s first day of work); and
• Make the poster available online (through an intranet or mobile app for employees to view) if such means are regularly used to communicate with its employees.

In advance of the July 1 deadline, employers should plan where to post and how to distribute the poster to their employees.

Failure to comply with the posting and distribution requirements may subject an employer to civil penalties.
