Steve Troup, Chair of the Cooperative and Condominium Practice, was quoted in The Cooperator’s article “Going it Alone.” The article explains that while most co-op, condo and HOA communities partner with management firms for their counseling and day-to-day operations, some choose to self-manage. Steve states “Larger buildings are typically not self-managed, although some are. They have a professional manager, who is a building employee and who has been well-trained before going in-house.” With a self-managing a building, Steve states the importance of the individual in charge knowing the scope of the job noting that “You’re not just collecting rent and paying bills,” and “there are an awful lot of administrative and regulatory issues involved.”
